Dr. Binod Pokharel is Associate Professor in Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Dr. Pokharel completed his PhD from University of Wyoming. His research areas are mountain meteorology, winter orographic cloud seeding, extreme weather, climate variability and climate change. His other interest includes transboundary transport of air pollution and forest fire. He is currently working on a sub-seasonal scale drought and fire weather forecasting model, validation and bias correction of CMIP6, and development of citizen science program, particularly in Nepal. His previous work also focused on research-to-operation project that developed a cloud seeding weather forecasting model and tools for Utah, USA.

My Journey

Graduation and PhD

He graduated from Tribhuvan University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Physics, and Mathematics. He then went on to earn a Master of Science in Meteorology. In May 2009, He had the chance to enroll in the University of Wyoming’s Master of Science program in atmospheric science. He then finished his Ph.D. in atmospheric science at the same university in 2014 after that.
